Wally began his coaching career in 1994 at Menlo College as a student assistant and took over the linebacker and special teams positions. Before coming to Butte, Wally was fortunate to coach some high caliber athletes including two All-American, nine Academic All-State players, and several conference award winners at the JC level. In 2000, he was the assistant to the offensive coordinator for the Western Division Champion San Jose SaberCats of the AFL. Funk then returned to Menlo and was part of a team that set the NCAA single game passing record. He was also the run-game coordinator for a group that set school records in single game, season rushing and scoring.

Four of his Menlo student-athletes earned NCAA All-America status and seven received all-region honors. He also coached at the high school level in Morgan Hill, CA where Jared Allen was a special teams' standout. He is also our Student Athlete Success Program Coordinator in the Center for Academic Success. The first intercollegiate athletic event in Utah State University's history took place on November 25, 1892, when the Agriculturalists defeated the football team from the University of Utah, 12–0. The game was played on what is now the quad, and it was the only game until 1896.

The Aggies enjoyed early regional dominance, notching their first perfect season (7–0) in 1907. In 1911, under head coach Clayton Teetzel, the team again finished undefeated, even shutting out each of its five opponents by a collective score of 164–0. The makeshift field on the quad continued to serve the team until 1913, when football was moved to Adams Field, two blocks west of campus, where Adams Park now sits. The new field represented an improvement, but the facilities remained meager, which fact became more apparent with the success of Coach E. L. Romney, for whom the current football stadium is named, earned the team's first-ever conference championship in 1921, and compiled a 128–91–16 record in 29 seasons.

Jeff joined the Roadrunner staff in 2010 after serving as an assistant coach at Yuba College for four seasons. Previous to that he was an assistant for 10 seasons with Elk Creek High School. Jeff coached the offensive and defensive lines at Elk Creek High School and was the defensive coordinator the final 7 seasons. Seven of the ten seasons the team earned a spot in the NSCIF Playoffs which includes a section Championship in 2004.

(Additionally the final two seasons he was the special teams coordinator and assistant recruiting coordinator.) Twice in four seasons one of his players lead the state in sacks. Jeff retired after serving 28 years in Juvenile Parole and Probation and Law Enforcement. He previously served as the head coach at Durham High school, where he led them to two playoff appearances and a section runner-up. Prior to that, he spent six years coaching offensive and defensive line at Chico High school.

He was the offensive coordinator and assistant head coach the last two seasons. He has also spent time coaching at his alma-mater Truckee HS, where they are one of Nevada's most successful programs. Prior to taking over as head coach as Southern Virginia, Fitzgerald spent three seasons as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at SVU.

Before heading to Buena Vista, Fitzgerald spent one season as the offensive coordinator at Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee. He also spent two years as the special teams coordinator at Tennessee-Martin. Lanning will coach against two Utah schools and he is one of the biggest unknowns of the new head coaches.

Upon his arrival in Logan, he immediately started to assemble a winning crew. The Aggies have played their home games at various spots around campus during their history with the current location housing Utah State Football since 1968. Previously named Romney Stadium for Dick Romney, Utah State's all-time winningest football coach and former athletics director, Romney Stadium was officially dedicated on September 27, 1969. The first game in Romney Stadium history came a season earlier in 1968, when Utah State defeated New Mexico State, 28–12 on September 14. Previous to the current stadium, the Aggies played at another, smaller venue also called "Romney Stadium", which was situated on the site where the HPER building now stands. The name Andy Avalos has been thrown around in the Utah State head coaching search, but it seems very unlikely.

Avalos is well known for leading stingy Boise State defenses and also played for the Broncos as a linebacker. Avalos left the Broncos when Oregon came calling and has been with the Ducks ever since. In his first season with Oregon, the Ducks went from 48th in the nation in scoring defense to 9th in scoring defense. Avalos seems more likely to stay with Oregon as a defensive coordinator for the time being or maybe even leave for a head coaching job in the power five. Even though Avalos has been mentioned in the coaching search for Utah State, it doesn't seem likely that he will end up there.

Fifth-year running backs coach Kiel McDonald has progressively elevated the running game. Utah led the Pac-12 in rushing in 2019 as Zack Moss achieved his third consecutive 1,000-yard season and became Utah's all-time leading rusher last season. Moss was named the 2019 Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year, earned All-America honors and was taken in the third round of the NFL Draft. In 2020, Ty Jordan was named the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year and a Freshman All-American.

Before coming to Utah, McDonald spent five years at Eastern Washington ( ), where he was also the co-special teams' coordinator. The Eagles made the FCS playoffs four times, advancing to the national semifinals in 2012, 2013 and 2016. Entering his eighth season as the offensive line coach, Jim Harding has also served as Utah's assistant head coach (2017-present) and co-offensive coordinator ( ). He has coached five first-team All-Pac-12 selections and 2016 Morris Award winner in Isaac Asiata. Harding has produced and six NFL draft picks, including four members of the 2016 offensive line and at least one in three of the past six years.

Harding's linemen have blocked for a 1,000-yard rusher in six of the last seven seasons. He came to Utah after five seasons at Wyoming as an offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator . The Battle of the Brothers refers to the rivalry between Utah State and Utah. The two teams have a long-running football series, which, at 112 games, is tied for the seventh most-played rivalry in the Division I FBS football.

The Battle of the Brothers is the oldest FBS Division I college football rivalry in the United States between two public universities in the same state. Both programs played the first game in their respective histories against each other in Logan on November 25, 1892, which game the Aggies won 12–0. The two teams played every year from 1944 to 2009, but the series took a two-year hiatus for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.

On September 7, 2012, the Aggies snapped the 12-game losing streak beating Utah 27–20 in Logan. The series continued in 2015 at Rice-Eccles Stadium, with Utah winning 24–14. The Utah State Aggies are a college football team that competes in the Mountain West Conference of the Football Bowl Subdivision of NCAA Division I, representing Utah State University. The Utah State college football program began in 1892 and has played home games at Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium since 1968.

They have won thirteen conference championships in four different conferences during their history, most recently in 2021. For the past two seasons, he has been an offensive graduate assistant at Texas Tech, following Matt Wells when Wells took the head coaching job there after six years at Utah State. Anderson knows that building trust between his staff and new players will take time. In his first address to the team after his hiring, he asked for patience.

Tensions were high after many players lobbied for Maile to become to Utah State's next head football coach and later refused to play the final game of the season after their Zoom meeting with Cockett and Hartwell went awry. Former coach Gary Andersen ceremoniously came and unceremoniously went. The university's president became embroiled in a controversy involving her alleged comments about two-time interim head coach Frank Maile, for which she was eventually exonerated. In December 2012, Matt Wells, Andersen's former offensive coordinator, was hired as the new head coach of the Utah State Aggies. Wells coached the Aggies in their inaugural year as members of the Mountain West Conference. Despite multiple injuries to offensive starters, the Aggies were able to gain a berth to the first Mountain West Conference Football Championship Game, which they lost to Fresno State by a score of 17–24.

Coach Wells was awarded the Mountain West Coach of the Year award and the Aggies defeated Northern Illinois in the Poinsettia Bowl by a score of 21–14. At the conclusion of the 2018 regular season, Matt Wells left to accept the head coaching job at Texas Tech University. The names that were on that team are ones everyone can name off - Smith, Weddle, Scalley, Warren, Savoy, and many more. Of course there are two names that people think of when that 2004 team is discussed, co-head coaches for the Fiesta Bowl, Urban Meyer and Kyle Whittingham.

Coach Meyer lead a loaded coaching staff that season, that produced the amazing results on the field. Fans now, looking back, may not realize the talent that coaching staff had on it. I'll list out some names that people may have forgotten, or didn't realize was on that staff, and where they have been since that amazing season. Utah State is expected to hire Arkansas State's Blake Anderson to fill the position, per media reports. The NCAA football programs initially had divided responses to COVID-19.

Some conferences postponed the season, but eventually, all major conferences chose to move forward. In particular, Utah States' football coach, Gary Anderson, shared a controversial stance on how his program was dealing with the 2020 season. In 2008, Whittingham engineered the best season in Utah football history. The Utes went 13-0—concluding the season with a Sugar Bowl rout of Alabama, a team that had spent five weeks at No. 1.

Utah was declared the national champion that season by major selector Anderson/Hester and was ranked No. 2 in the final AP poll. Whittingham's success has continued in the Pac-12 Conference where Utah won the South Division title outright in 2018 and 2019, and shared it with USC in 2015. Whittingham has coached 25 All-Americans, including seven consensus picks. He has coached the only major national award winners in Utah football history with three Ray Guy Award winners ( ), a Lou Groza Award winner and a Ted Hendricks Award winner to his credit. On December 12, 2020, Blake Anderson was hired as the head coach of the Utah State Aggies football team, replacing Gary Andersen following an unsuccessful 2020 season. In his first season at the helm, Anderson guided the team to a 9—3 regular season record, good for the Mountain Division championship, as well as the conference championship with a victory over San Diego State.

Helped guide Utah State to three-straight 20-plus win seasons, three-consecutive NCAA Tournament berths and two MWC Tournament Championships. Instrumental in the development of Neemias Queta, a 2021 honorable mention AP All-American at Utah State. Coached South Dakota teams to back-to-back 20-win seasons, a regular season Summit League Championship. In his final season at WSC, the Tetons won 27 games and earned the program's first-ever top-25 ranking. Graduated from UW-La Crosse with a bachelor's degree in physical education. Master's degree in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in sports management and education from South Dakota.

Cockett's comments were reportedly made during a video call Tuesday with athletic director John Hartwell and the Utah State University Leadership Council to discuss Maile's candidacy for the permanent head coaching job. According McMurphy, some comments regarding Maile's religion were said by Cockett during a team Zoom call with Cockett and athletic director John Hartwell while discussing Maile's candidacy for the team's head coaching job. Maile is a member of The Church of Jesus Chris of Latter-Day Saints. Sharrieff Shah is in his 10th season coaching the cornerbacks and third year as the special teams coordinator after serving three years as the co-coordinator. Shah has sent five cornerbacks to the NFL, and coached Jaylon Johnson to All-America and first-team All-Pac-12 honors in 2019. He also has a first-team All-America punt returner and a Freshman All-America punt returner to his credit.

The cornerbacks were instrumental in Utah ranking second in total defense and No. 1 in pass efficiency defense in the Pac-12 in 2020. Shah was cited by ESPN.com in 2014 as one of "10 coaches who adapt and thrive." He was a practicing attorney before becoming a coach at Utah. His glossy bowl record includes a 2-0 mark in bowls currently part of the College Football Playoff New Year's Six, with wins over Pittsburgh in the 2005 Fiesta Bowl as co-head coach and Alabama in the 2009 Sugar Bowl.

Banda credited Anderson for intentionally hiring coaches of color, particularly because he sees other coaches in college football talking about diversity but not making those hires. He added that a coaching staff should be a reflection of its players. The walkout was spurred by a Zoom meeting Tuesday between the players' leadership council, Cockett and athletic director John Hartwell to discuss the program's coaching search, McMurphy reported. Maile replaced the fired Gary Andersen after an 0-3 start to the season. Andersen's Aggies have plenty of opportunities to prove the program has advanced to the next level of college football.

Four days after the loss to Ohio State, Andersen elected to take the vacant head coaching position at Oregon State. The University of Utah graduate coached in Corvallis, Oregon, for two-and-a-half seasons and struggled to a record of 7-23. Andersen and Oregon State mutually parted ways one day after the Beavers were defeated by USC, dropping them to 1-5 in the 2017 campaign. And you can guess what happened next — the Rams missed the game-winning field goal. He is the first head coach in A-State history to win at least 47 games during his first six seasons at the school.

Additionally, Anderson is just the third head coach at A-State to direct the program to 47 wins in 76 or fewer games. Fitzgerald played football at Potomac State College before transferring and playing his final seasons as a fullback at James Madison University. After leading his team to an Atlantic 10 Conference championship in 1999, Fitzgerald began his coaching career at Bridgton Academy in Maine in 2000 before returning to James Madison as a defensive assistant in 2001. "Gary is one of the best coaches in the country and we are lucky to have him with us," Weber State head coach Jay Hill said in a statement.

OGDEN — Longtime college football coach Gary Andersen has been added as a volunteer staff member with the Wildcats football program, according to the program's athletic department. The Cougars, Utes and Aggies are guaranteed to face off against seven first-year FBS head coaches during the 2022 college football season.

Anthony spent the last three seasons at the University of Central Florida, where he took the Knights to a 28-8 record in that span. Last year, he served as the co-offensive coordinator and running backs coach of the team after previously holding titles as running backs coach in 2018 and passing game coordinator in 2019. Collins, who has 24 years of collegiate coaching experience, joins the Nittany Lions after spending the 2021 season as Boise State's special teams coordinator and edge coach.

UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State football coach James Franklin announced the hiring of Stacy Collins as special teams coordinator/outside linebacker/nickels coach for the Nittany Lions. McGuire takes back his role as offensive line coach that he had from 2012 to 2017 under Leach. He left Pullman for the offensive coordinator and running backs coach at Texas Tech under Kliff Kingsbury where he spent one year.

He then joined the Texas State program where he coached the offensive line for two years. Prior to his time in Laramie, he was the offensive line coach at Montana and the strength and conditioning coach at Washington. His first coaching job came at Western Washington working with the tight ends. Kaligis comes to the program as one of the most experienced coaches on staff having worked with tons of different position groups during his coaching tenure. Frank Maile, who spent the last six seasons at Utah State, has been named Vanderbilt's defensive line coach, Commodore head coach Derek Mason announced Tuesday.
